Who is eligible to use the medical card program? What medical conditions qualify?

The State of Pennsylvania has approved the use of medical card for a number of health conditions.  They include:

  • Anxiety (which can include anxiety related to the Covid-19 pandemic)
  • Autism
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Cancer, including remission therapy
  • Crohn’s disease / Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Damage to the nervous tissue of the central nervous system (brain-spinal cord)
  • Dyskinetic and spastic movement disorders
  • Epilepsy or Intractable seizures
  • Glaucoma
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Huntington’s disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Neurodegenerative diseases
  • Neuropathies
  • Opioid use disorder
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Severe chronic or intractable pain of neuropathic origin or severe chronic or intractable pain
  • Sickle cell anemia
  • Terminal illness
  • Tourette’s syndrome
